So when I say I grew up "farm", I mean this in a good way. My grandpa was a farmer, one of the first to actually have a tractor (so being at the forefront of technology is in my genetics). So, though many years later, I also grew up on a farm (much smaller, but still a farm) in a farming community in Denmark, Wisconsin. Growing up in a farming community was ALL about community. We got up every morning, not for a paycheck, or with a grudge towards the days work, but because when you are on a farm, you get up and do the work, because simply...that's what needs to be done. That feeling never leaves a person, even if I have since left the farm, the sence of getting the job done never leaves. The "job" never had borders of just our property either...farming was always an "all for one, and one for all" community. When the neighbors animals got out of the fence, WE ALL went literally running to get them rounded up. When the neighbors tractor broke down, parts and labor were brought in from the local feed store. When the neighbors wife was ill, the other wives brought food to that house. You simply couldn't survive as an island, for survival was depended on community. As a teenager, we did our evening chores, when we were done we began calling (on our house land line, which was attached to the wall with a cord!) our friends, to see who else was done, or who still needed help, because you see, to go out with your friends, everyone had to be finished with "barn chores". We actually shopped, and considered it "mall-like" at a store called "Fleet Farm", and if Fleet Farm, didn't have it, well, you probably didn't need it!
Though I have moved away from the farm, farm is in my blood, and that is still the feeling I hope to bring to Choice Awards. A feeling of community. A feeling that you know us. A feeling that we are here for you. A feeling that you can trust us. A feeling that we cared about you. A feeling that we took care of you. A feeling that we went above and beyond what you expected, not because we had to, but because that's what we do at Choice Awards, we get up and get the job done!
